We’re Not Asleep… We’re Meditating (on the future of AND THE SUN)

If you’ve noticed a lull in our newsletters, it’s because we’ve been immersed in bringing an idea to life.

We’ve spent the last few months collaborating with artists, technologists, and researchers—many of whom you’ll recognize from prior newsletter features—to create an experience where breath itself becomes a medium for artistic exploration of meditation.

We’re thrilled to introduce TOTEM— a show, a contemplative experience, and an interactive essay about the ideas of ground and light—brought together by breath.

This show is about rooting down and opening up, about stillness and expansion. It’s an invitation to breathe, to engage, to explore meditation as something tangible, beautiful, and interactive.

At the heart of the show is TOTEM, a simple, high-quality, smartphone-based technology for measuring breath that anyone can use. This technology—and the conceptual framework around it—anchors the exhibition.

Hosted in a dynamic creative production warehouse, TOTEM will feature nearly a dozen breath-responsive installation pieces across multiple mediums, contributed by eight artists. Each piece is an interactive meditation, a chance to see, feel, and experience breath as something beyond the body—something that connects us to both the ground and the sky.

Think of TOTEM as an experiential essay—an exploration of meditation, light, and meaning-making through art. It’s beautiful, poignant, connective, and fun. And it’s happening this Thursday.
